Using Different Types of Wood Panels
Updated: Aug 31

CNC router machine is widely used in woodworking industries. But for different types of wood panel carving or cutting, the CNC machine configuration is different, such as spindle power, holding table type etc. Below is some information about the wood panels types.
SOFTWOOD
Softboard is a multi-purpose, low-density fibreboard panel that is easy to handle, lightweight and durable. It has numerous uses in homes, offices, factories and educational institutions.

Plywood is a manufactured wood panel from the family of manufactured boards (such as medium-density fibreboard (MDF), particleboard (chipboard), etc.) made from thin sheets of wood veneer. Plywood layers (called veneers or plies) are glued together, with adjacent plies having their wood grain rotated relative to adjacent layers up to 90 degrees.
All plywoods bind resin and wood fibre sheets (cellulose cells are long, strong and thin) to form a composite material. This alternation of the grain is called cross-graining and has several important benefits: it reduces the tendency of wood to split when nailed at the edges; it reduces expansion and shrinkage, providing improved dimensional stability; and it makes the strength of the panel consistent across all directions. There is usually an odd number of plies so that the sheet is balanced—this reduces warping. Because plywood is bonded with grains running against one another and with an odd number of composite parts, it is very hard to bend it perpendicular to the grain direction of the surface ply.
BC Exterior Plywood AS 2272-1979 A Bond (External & Internal)
This Plywood is a structural wood panel using “A” Bond glue with a high quality “B” face and “C” grade back which is suitable when a superior face is required for a high-quality aesthetic finish. It is also suitable for fully or semi-exposed applications provided it is finished correctly.

MDF (Standard) E1 & E0 Available
Medium Density Fibreboard or MDF is a versatile wood panel product that differs from particleboard in that the wood chip is reduced to a fibre which in its raw form is similar to cotton wool. Resin is added in the manufacturing process to produce a panel that has a smooth surface on both sides and an even density profile through whisk makes an ideal substrate to router and groove. These characteristics also allow intricate and precise machining and finishing techniques when producing high-quality cabinetry components. The product is also used extensively for handyman projects as it offers a high-quality surface for sprayed and hand-painted treatments.
Please note that not all sizes are available in thicknesses offered. Our stock is continually changing, please call or e-mail to verify available stock and quantities.

Alpine MDF Primed Mouldings are produced from premium quality, moisture resistant Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF). Mouldings are suitable for interior applications and are available in a wide range of profiles to suit modern and traditional decors. Our mouldings are resistant to warping, twisting and are free of knots or imperfections to make installation easier.
Application:
Alpine MDF Primed Mouldings are used as skirtings, architraves, door jambs and lining boards. Alpine MDF Primed Mouldings are designed for interior use and are not recommended for use in situations where they will be exposed to water or prolonged high humidity (e.g. shower cabinets, saunas or in exterior applications). In situations where they will be exposed to heat from fireplaces or solid fuel heaters, Alpine MDF Primed Mouldings should be installed with the same clearances used for solid timbers.
